Lauren Alaina may not get her shot to be the next "American Idol" because she has lost her voice ...spies on the set tell TMZ ... and it could be the break of a lifetime for Haley Reinhart.
We're told during the rehearsal this afternoon, Lauren -- who has been losing her voice -- was supposed to sing three songs. She got through the first, struggled through the second and was unable to perform the third.
Our spies say a doctor on the set has ordered Lauren not to sing or speak, but there is a "real possibility" she will not be able to perform on tonight's show.
We're told if Lauren is unable to perform, producers will reinstate the third place finisher -- Haley Reinhart who will then compete against Scotty McCreery for the title.
Producers are trying to find Haley right now.

After three months of buildup to the grand finale of American Idol season 10, we have to say we were kind of let down by night one. Sure, we saw Lauren Alaina overcome a blown vocal chord to snag the judges vote for the night and enjoyed Taio Cruz performing live (David Cookwas pretaped, *feigning shock*), but something was missing and we can't seem to put a finger on it.
So what was going on in the Nokia Theatre when the cameras weren't rolling? And why was Scotty McCreery answering for Lauren in the postshow press conference?
If it wasn't already obvious, American Idol's two night finale kick-off wasn't the stuff past shows were made of. After weeks of rehearsal and preparation, we were surprised at how edgy everything felt. And not in a good way.
Although Nokia Live was packed with 7,000 screaming fans holding up neon signs and getting riled up over the sight of the 11 eliminated contestants sitting in the front row, the intimacy and warmth of the usual Idol stage setting was no where to be found.

Scotty and Lauren were visibly nervous, the judges seemed to show zero emotion during their performances, and it was difficult to truly enjoy the show when people's Twitter alerts were gong off right and left.
Of course, there was one cute moment we caught when the show cut to commercial. After round two when the judges finally gave their first critiques, Scotty began to exit the stage before Lauren. Not wanting to be left behind, she ran after Scotty and embraced him in a huge bear hug from behind before they disappeared backstage. Clearly there isn't any tension between the two.
They made this more evident postshow when the two stopped by the press room to talk about the final showdown, that to many, didn't really seem like much of a battle. Lauren, unable to speak due to doctor's orders to stay on vocal rest, had a pen and writing pad in hand which she used to write her answers to questions. Scotty, the gentleman that he is, helped Lauren out by reading her answers to the press room, an act that was not only endearing and sweet, but showed how much he cares about her.
When asked how they felt about their final performances, both had positive things to say, but didn't seem to have their usual sparkle.
"For me, I went out there and did my best and left everything out on the stage," Scotty said. "So our work is done and now it's up to America."
Lauren's response about her final performance? A short and sweet note: "It was good."
Who are you voting for to be the next American Idol? Do you think Lauren's blown vocal chord affected her performance? Did you like the first night of the finale? Who do you think will win? Let us know in the comments!
LOS ANGELES — When Kirstie Alley performs on the "Dancing With the Stars" season finale, she'll do it in a much smaller dress than the one she wore on the season premiere.
The costume Alley wore for her "Dancing" debut had to be taken in 38 inches for her to wear again for the show's closing episode Tuesday. She will reprise her opening-night dance, the cha-cha, in her original costume – minus about 38 inches in alterations from throughout the outfit.
The 60-year-old actress has been noticeably shrinking week after week, but she was coy when asked Monday how much weight she has lost during her two and a half months on the show.
"There will be some reveal of that at some point, but I really didn't care," she said. "As long as I kept changing and changing and changing, I really didn't care. It was like, keep whittling, whittling, whittling. And the other thing that's really more significant to me – I mean, I love the whittling, I like being skinny – I'm really strong and really agile, and it gave me a new life."
Alley's costumes have gotten progressively smaller and skimpier as she has continued on the show.
"We are constantly taking in and altering Kirstie's costumes," said designer Randall Christensen. "Isn't she looking incredible?"
The one-time "Fat Actress" wowed in a body-hugging catsuit during her freestyle dance Monday. After the performance, Judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Alley that she has become "the new poster child for life as it should be lived at 60 years old."
A new "Dancing" champ will be named Tuesday. Alley is up against actress Chelsea Kane and football star Hines Ward.

Lady Gaga fans were delighted Monday to learn that they could download her new album, Born This Way, from Amazon for a mere $0.99 — until, of course, technical difficulties set in.
Downloads of the album are delayed, leaving folks unable to get the entire album immediately upon purchase. Amazon issued the following statement:
Amazon is experiencing high volume and downloads are delayed. If customers order today, they will get the full Lady Gaga, Born This Way album for $0.99. Thanks for your patience.
However, the damage has already been done, as users are meting out one-star ratings in droves, most of which deal with Amazon’s slow service as opposed to the quality of the music (although some reviews in the lower bracket did dub the disc “disappointing”). As a result, the album has a relatively low three-star rating.
Reviews of the following nature reign: “This review isn’t a review of the album, but of the Amazon’s digital music service. I tried this as an experiment to see if I wanted to order more music this way, but it only downloaded half the songs. Still a deal at 99cents, but not an experiment I’ll want to repeat with a full-price album.”
Many reviews also trumpet the user’s intent to buy from iTunes in the future, instead of Amazon — a state of affairs Amazon would want to avoid, considering iTunes already holds most of the market share for digital music.
This backlash does not bode well for the future popularity of Amazon’s new Cloud Player service, which the company was touting in the promotional language of the deal, offering users more storage space for buying the album.
Amazon.com Inc.’s one-day, 99-cent promotion of Lady Gaga’s highly anticipated second studio album, “Born This Way,” is resulting in downloading delays on the Internet retailer’s website due to high volume, the company said Monday.
Amazon thanked users for their patience on its website and on Twitter, saying consumers who ordered “Born This Way” on Monday would get the full Lady Gaga album for the promotional price. Lady Gaga, a Grammy-winning multiplatinum pop star, is known for an unusual sense of style as well as hits including “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.”
A majority of Amazon users’ reviews for the album were poor, although they mostly focused their complaints on an inability to download all 14 tracks.
An Amazon representative wasn’t immediately available to provide additional comment on the delays.
